Twenty Ten (2010)

I am not a big person who likes to think the "new year" will bring great things and by making resolutions all will be fresh and new. The truth is... most years we go through the same routine and make the same mistakes. This year I am taking a different approach to this year. At first I thought I would make a Top 10 list of things I want to accomplish this year. My english professor said I had a natural talent to public speak because I was had a dry sense of humor when I made a top 10 list about how I hated public speaking. Needless to say I got an A.
But then I realized I didn't have 10 good goals for myself. I am sure I could make up some but that would be cheating the system and I am not about to start out the decade with cheating.

So here are some things I know I will accomplish, because well I already signed up for....

10. Run two half marathons by 2011 and maybe even a full marathon.
I signed up for one half in March (www.shamrockmarathon.com) and by the end of January I will have signed up for another one.

9. Start Yoga/Pilates.
I need to be a little more flexible and I guess more focused. Anyone know any affordable Yoga classes or studios in the Newark area?

8. Fly across the ocean,
I haven't booked this but I figured I want to travel outside the US this year.

7. Read CNN more.
Cuz let's face it... I know more about which celebrity had a baby (Matthew McConaughey)

6. Challenge myself at work.
I am still getting the hang of University of Delaware but I think I still have so much to learn. (CHEESEY)

5. No to little soda... only one a week if any.
I have been doing this one for about 4 years now... keep up the good work I guess.

4. Get rid of half of my wardrobe.
No Seriously... I still would have too much. I need to simplify my life and clothing would do just that!

3. I would say spend more time with family.. But I think I am covered in that area. I made that my priority a couple of years back and have stuck to it!

2. Lose those last 10 pounds.
I have been see-sawing since September and would like to just be my goal weight and stick to it.

1. Continue to Be Happy.
My Friends, My Family, My Life Choices...... they all affect my happiness in one way or another. I have always kept that in the back of my head. I hope I continue to be happy.

Well looky there... I did make a top 10 things to do this year! And half of them are resolutions! Hopefully I can fit blogging into my regiment so I can keep people updated... but life goes on!

There's a Jungle Cat in the Bathroom!
*Maybe I should add "quote less movie quotes" to my list!

Hey Ashley, let's learn how to do push ups!!!

So two years ago, my favorite SU Co-worker and I made a pact that we would learn how to do a good push up. We were a glutton for punishment and signed up a for a 6am Boot camp twice a week. During the summer no less. But after 6 weeks of grass drills, running up dewy grass hills, sit ups, dips, and of course push-up... we were able to do up to 20 push ups with no problem... and not on our knees! Our next goal was pull ups.... we are still working on this one.

But my brilliant cousin Chris McGrath is the biggest work out nut and has lost a WHOLE me in weight and is still losing tons of weight because he is a rock star, well he found this website http://hundredpushups.com/. I am thinking this is going to be a great goal for me and my NEW work out buddy to do (while we train for the half marathon in March).

Push up training starts next week! Who else is in....  I'll try to keep everyone updated!

What Free Time...

Ok Blogging time… Ok so my last blog was about what should I do with my extra time… Clearly my boss, professors, friends, and students read it. And boy did I speak too soon. So I got a little busy and overwhelmed this week. My second week of classes I was unbelievably prepared. I taught my first class, understood research methods, and even though I didn’t participate in my Design Adult Programs class… I understood it enough. BUT THEN…. My job decided to pick up on the responsibilities given to me and I was soooo excited to actually get involved in real student activities! But now that only “20-hours-a-week” office hours doesn’t seem to be enough. I know I can do but I just don’t want to disappoint anyone. I think I will ok…. I finally sorta caught up on work.. now I am working on my readings for class. I’m 27% finished with my homework…. I will try to get 50% finished tonight! Love my Friday night plans!

Ok I’m babbling. I’m watching Baby Mama. Tina Fey is a natural funny lady. Ok time to get back to work….

Congratulations, Kate. I want to reward you with five minutes of uninterrupted eye contact.

The P’s & C’s of my new TIME

Well, I have worked a successful week at University of Delaware in the Student Centers Office. (I have to get used to wearing non-old navy flip-flops – I have the blisters to prove it) Survived a weekend in Delaware (Well, I hung out in Philly Saturday and Lancaster on Sunday) and hopefully by next week I will be all moved into my apt. HOWEVER, I seem to have free time.

SO here are the Pro’s and Con’s of only working 20 hours…

-I can sleep in ALTHOUGH the sun wakes me up everyday at 7am
-I could start a hobby BUT knowing the future will be busy with class and other work, I have no motivation to do so.
-I can work out in the afternoon HOWEVER it’s been too hot to work out in the afternoon. Like Heat exhaustion hot.
-I can study more BUT classes haven’t started
-I have more time to shop UNFORTUNATELY low funds and a lack of Target in the Newark Area.
-More time to hang out with my plethora of friends BUT they all work 40 hours and live at least 45 minutes

Oh I could go one… but if you have suggestions on “What Laura Can Do to Occupy Herself”…. Let me know!

PS: Happy Birthday Mom

HEY MOM! CAN WE GET SOME MEATLOAF?

...and now she blogs

I email. I IM. I Text. I Twitter. I iPhone. So why not blog.

I think I will attempt this while I am earning my masters degree at University of Delaware. My first day is September 1st. But at this moment I have just spent my first 24 hours at my new apartment. I am living in a townhouse a mile off campus. But for the past three years, I have lived alone in a 2 bedroom apartment with about 200 students in my building. So this is a big change. Another change. I would work about at least 50 hours a week and that includes weekends and 3am on any given night. Starting August 17th, I will be working 20 hours a week. Including any weekend events I might have to be at. Change 3 is that I would work out at 6am everyday at a fabulous gym (Brick Bodies) with another RD. Her name was Ashley Staples (twitter AStapleGun – I came up with that) Well, she is in North Carolina and the commute alone would be a work out. So now I have find a good work out time and I think I will try that campus gym. Stay Tuned.. Last change is going back to school. Everything is different from when I was in school last. I didn’t work. I didn’t have a cell phone. Wireless wasn’t really around. I didn’t have a car. I had a dining hall to make me meals. I also had my friends. I lived with some amazing girls that well made me feel safe. Here I am starting new, meeting new people (except Joe Enste) and studying something that I like. Should be easy right…. My stomach is already in knots. I just want to skip all the jittery stuff and get to where I am comfortable.

Last change… my TiVo isn’t hooked up yet :-(

So as you read… you will probably read about my adventures, my ups, my downs, my dating, my friends, my living environment, my family, my job duties, my gym regiment, and of course my thoughts. I mean why else would I do this…..
